Professional Program
Year 1
Description
This one year Professional Program is for students ages 14 and up with a passion for circus arts and ready to develop their full potential and pursue a career in circus arts. Circus arts requires rigorous physical training and involve not only solid physical preparation, but technical and artistic training in circus, dance and performing arts. The programs involve not only solid physical preparation, but technical and artistic training in circus, dance and performing arts. Student performances/exam are presented before a panel of judges three times during the year and at the completion of the program to evaluate the student's skills and ability to combine technical and artistic skills.
Candidate
The ideal candidate wishes to pursue the training necessary to become a circus artist. In order to achieve this goal, students must commit to an intensive preparatory training, which could be followed by the Professional Artist Program. The candidate demonstrates basic knowledge in the circus arts, dance, a martial art or acrobatic sport with an artistic component, such as artistic or rhythmic gymnastics, trampoline, diving, figure skating, etc. The candidate is in excellent health and demonstrates determination, creativity, discipline and maturity.
Curriculum
Includes but is not limited to: trapeze, silks, cerceau (lyra), cloud swing, rope, spanish web, contortion, juggling, trampoline, stretching, conditioning, dance, theatre, adagio, balancing, acting, net, hammock, hula hoop, tumbling.
Program duration
This 42-week program span over one year with an average of 20 hours of training per week. You can register for this program for the September to August session or for the January to December session and applications will be accepted anytime. Students registered are required to commit to the full length of the program.
Schedule
• Fall Session: 280 hours from September to December (14 weeks)
• Winter Session: 400 hours from January to June (20 weeks)
• Summer Session: 72 hours in July and the first 2 weeks of August (6 weeks)
• Boot-Camp (Final Evalutaion-Show Preparation): 40 hours from August 27th to 31st
• Final Evaluation/Show (at a local Theatre tbd): 8+ hours on September 1st 2012 (TBC)
Dress code
Students should wear suitable close-fitting gym clothes. Ballet slippers or jazz shoes are recommended but not essential. Jeans, shoes and jewelry are not permitted.
Evaluation
The students will be evaluated 3 times during the year (20% each) plus the final examination presentation (40%). The final examination will take place before a panel of judges. You will be judged on the following:
• Physical (strength, flexibility, balance, endurance)
• Technical (execution, safety, form, level of difficulty)
• Artistic (flow, originality)
• Attitude (effort, focus, self-discipline)
Tuition & Funding
Tuition for the Preparatory Program is $5040/year (800 hours total)
Several payment plans are available.
Development Funding is available through the Canada Council for the Arts. Spaces are limited.
Volunteer Work
Learning the arts of circus is more than being able to "do the moves", it requires physical and psychological understanding of the techniques. This is the reason why we require, in addition to the training, a minimum of 40 hours of volunteering as an assistant-instructor for birthday parties, camps and or classes over the course of the program.
Certificate
At the completion of the program, with a final score of 60% or higher, the student is awarded the Professional Program certificate. The students with a score below 60% will receive the school certificate.

The aim is to develop a solid base from which to move to the next level. Student performances/exam are presented before a panel of judges 3 times during the year and at the completion of the program to evaluate the student's talents and ability to combine technical and artistic skills
